MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A 38-year-old man has pleaded guilty to robbing a Coon Rapids bank last summer and using a cab as a getaway car.
Theron Washington, of Blaine, admitted he robbed $3,000 from Northeast Bank June 8. He used a cab to get there and get away and paid the driver $100 from the robbery. Police say the cab's driver was unaware the man robbed the bank.
The bank vice president recognized Washington as having been at the bank two weeks before and inquiring about opening an account. The vice president also noted the taxi's plate number.
The Star Tribune reports that officers tracked the taxi to a mall, where Washington was arrested.
Washington pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Minneapolis.
