MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A Minot man has pleaded not guilty to several charges in a mid-February incident in Mandan in which authorities blocked streets and evacuated a day care.

Thirty-seven-year-old Shane Rodriguez is accused of calling 911, asking police to shoot him, and then threatening to shoot officers.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that there was no standoff on Feb. 16 — police who responded learned that a friend had picked up Rodriguez, and he was later arrested in Bismarck.

He faces terrorizing, false information and drug charges. Defense attorney Todd Schwarz says Rodriguez has mental health issues and acknowledges he needs help.
