BARNESVILLE, Minn. – Preliminary autopsy results have ruled the death of a Barnesville man found trapped under a garage door on March 7 as an accidental death by asphyxiation, Police Chief Dean Ernst said.

Steve Peterson, 51, the part-owner of Barnesville Bus Co., apparently was unable to breathe when the garage door came down on his chest, Ernst said.

“As of right now, there wasn’t anything that jumped out like a heart attack or aneurysm or anything like that,” he said.

Ernst has said it appeared Peterson was trying to duck under the garage door as it was closing when he somehow got caught under it.
