Sheriff wants to restore ND patrol moneyFARGO, N.D. (AP) — Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney is going to bat for the Highway Patrol in a budget proposal pending in the North Dakota Legislature.
Laney wants lawmakers to restore $4.5 million that was cut from the governor's budget proposal for the patrol. The money was earmarked for adding troopers and making improvements to the state Law Enforcement Training Center in Bismarck.
Laney says that the patrol needs more troopers to watch for overweight trucks in the oil patch. He says the funding cuts affect law enforcement statewide and that other sheriffs share his view.
