Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - If you're familiar with Art in the Fargo-Moorhead area, chances are that you've heard of James O'Rourke.

Jame's O'Rourke died yesterday afternoon after falling down a steep set of stairs and suffering a brain injury. The 77-year-old was the Director of the Rourke Art Museum and Gallery.

The gallery opened more than 50-years ago. Friends say O'Rourke will be greatly missed.

RON RAMSAY - Friend of 40 years: “By and large the institution has to go on and as they say, that's what Jim would want, and it's just a shame that he's not going to be here to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the institution, but apparently that just wasn't in the cards.”

O'Rourke also served as director of the Plains Art Museum until resigning in 1987.
