NWS hopeful that the Orwell Dam will reach a manageable stage by the spring melt
(WDAY TV) - The Orwell Dam posted record numbers this fall, but those numbers are falling. The National Weather Service is hopeful the Dam will reach a manageable stage by the spring melt.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
The Army Corp of Engineers runs the dam that's currently releasing water at a rate of 1250 cubic feet per second into the Otter Tail River. Right now, the dam is just under 1060 feet and falling.
They hope it goes down another 10-feet before the spring melt.
“They'll clamp it down when they see the flood forecast for Wahpeton-Breckenridge and Fargo-Moorhead so that they do not add to the height of the crest of the flood.”
Over the last week, the Otter-Tail has gone down more than a half-foot, to a level of 7.36 feet.
