GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Crews fired off explosives Tuesday to take down a bridge east of Drayton that's no longer needed.

The old Drayton Bridge connected North Dakota Highway 66 with Minnesota Highway 11 over the Red River east of Drayton.

It often was threatened by flooding and was replaced last fall with a 4,090-foot-long bridge that is considered the second longest in North Dakota.

Richard Sampson with the state Department of Transportation told the Grand Forks Herald that the bridge implosion went off "without a hitch."
