NDSU Art Professor Michael Strand has come up with a project to involve children and seniors in the flood fight.

Today at the Waterford, residents began writing messages of encouragement on the empty bags. NDSU students earlier had "stenciled” thought bubbles on the bags.

Some of those at Waterford recall other floods and say they're happy to do something, even though they can no longer throw sand bags.

BETH ANN SMITH - Waterford Resident: “I think it is a great idea good to let everyone in on it.”

Once the seniors and children finish writing on the bags, NDSU will get them into circulation. They will randomly appear.
