No discipline for ND coach in raccoon incident

CARRINGTON, N.D. (AP) — The coach of a North Dakota high school wrestling team that was pulled from a regional tournament over the weekend because of exposure to a live raccoon will not be disciplined.

CARRINGTON, N.D. (AP) — The coach of a North Dakota high school wrestling team that was pulled from a regional tournament over the weekend because of exposure to a live raccoon will not be disciplined.

The Carrington school administration wanted to place wrestling coach Mark Pazdernik on administrative leave for the rest of the season, but no motion was made on the recommendation during a school board meeting Tuesday.

Superintendent Brian Duchscherer says Pazdernik stopped the team bus on the way to Grafton and allowed athletes to get off. He says the athletes hit the raccoon with a pail and put it in a bus storage compartment without realizing it was still alive.

Pazdernik says he acted on impulse and feels bad about the incident.
