Through his caring bridge site, we've learned Zach Gabbard is improving each day. That site has now had more than 171 thousand visits.

He is awake and able to move his arms and legs and is able to respond to simple requests like squeezing a nurse’s hand.

A big step in the recovery is that doctors were finally able to close his chest after two heart surgeries.

There will still be more tests to determine if Zach has any temporary or permanent damage to his kidneys and brain.
