Difficult driving conditions cause several crashes on I-94

Mapleton, ND (WDAY TV) - A travel alert was in place for the entire state of North Dakota. This is just one of a handful of rollovers or crashes tonight. A car hit a pillow drift, spun out of control, and crashed into a guard rail on an I-94 bridge near Mapleton. A semi then smashed into the vehicle. Just minutes later, another car hit the car.

Thankfully, the one person injured has already been treated and released from Essentia. 15 vehicles have been reported in the ditch between Mapleton and Tower City the past couple hours.

It was a similar scene near Grand Forks. We caught up with one family who didn't get far on a trip from Winnipeg to Kansas City. Poor visibility left Denis Verrier and his wife stuck at a rest stop. The couple waited out the windy weather in their car for more than an hour.

DENIS VERRIERStranded Traveler: “From the border to Grand Forks it was not very good. There's some white out conditions, especially coming through under passes and that so we're debating about whether we're going to carry on or not.”
