Gym roof collapses at Minnesota churchAPPLE VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — The gymnasium roof at an Apple Valley church and school collapsed early Friday.
Fire officials say no one was injured because the gym was unoccupied.
Apple Valley Fire Chief Nealon Thompson says staff at Heritage Lutheran Church expressed concern about cracks in the ceiling drywall earlier this week. Thompson says maintenance workers then identified "a significant issue with the roof truss over the gym." A structural engineer was scheduled to inspect the roof Friday, even before the collapse.
Thompson says it's too early to tell if snow was a factor in the collapse. Heritage operates preschool and kindergarten programs.
