MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis police say an 83-year-old man was arrested for having more than four pounds of the illegal drug khat.
The man, who is from Hopkins, was allegedly selling the khat (cot) out of the trunk of his car in south Minneapolis.
Khat is a dried plant commonly used in East Africa and parts of the Arabian peninsula that can give users a high when chewed.
Police spokesman Sgt. Steve McCarty tells the Star Tribune the four pounds the man allegedly was riding around with is a "huge amount."
McCarty says a 20-year-old acquaintance of the man saw him operating out of the back of his car and called 911.
The man was being held Friday in the Hennepin County Jail.
