Thousands turn out for Devils Lake fishing tourney

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Nearly 3,700 anglers turned out on Devils Lake's Six Mile Bay over the weekend for the volunteer fire department's 27th annual ice fishing tournament.

The tournament is one of the largest in the country, with about 12,000 tickets sold each year. About $190,000 in prizes was awarded Saturday.

Andy Lange of Webster caught the biggest walleye, at 7.06 pounds. It was an anomaly — no other walleye over 0.58 ounces was caught.

Allan Desrosier of Roseau, Minn., landed the biggest northern, at 3 ½ pounds. Fargo's Arden Blair had the biggest perch, at 1.1 pounds.

The largest fish in each category was worth $1,000.
