No-win situation for city workers trying to clear roadwaysFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Can city workers really win this time of the year? They hear roadways aren't wide enough, and snow banks are too high. But making things worse is the easiest time to fix those problems is at night and a lot of homeowners like their peace and quiet at night.
In an ideal world jobs like this, taking snow out of neighborhoods would be done with the city's night crew. Unfortunately for these guys, they say doing this work in a neighborhood after 10 is extremely dicey.
These tedious jobs take hours in one area and just listen to how loud it is. Enough noise to leave a long list of complaints at city hall the next morning.
"You're able to do a lot more at night because there's just less traffic. To do some of these areas during the day, it's not that it can't be done, but it really creates some traffic issues."
An early warning, workers say some of the neighborhood clean-up will eventually have to start being done at night. They're unsure exactly when that will start, but it should be pretty obvious for homeowners when it does.
