Victim of bizarre crime speaks out after a neighbor turned into a violent 'soul collector'Fergus Falls, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A formal mayoral candidate in Fergus Falls is speaking out, after he says he was the victim of a bizarre crime. Skip Mallas says a neighbor turned into a violent "soul collector."
Five days later, the door handle on the Ivan "Skip" Mallas' home remains stained in blood.
Ivan "Skip" Mallas: “Told me he was gonna kill me. He started stabbing that knife in between my feet. Closer and closer and I didn't move.”
42-year-old Timothy Eugene Peterson is now in custody in the Otter Tail County Jail after police say he tried to collect Mallas's soul. Police say after the victim fought the suspect, the suspect traveled back here to his home half a bock down the road
Andrew Miller: “Police found Mr. Peterson covered with what is believed to be Mr. Mallas's blood.”
Several neighbors declined to comment on camera but one woman who lives across the street says Peterson has always seemed strange.
Livvy Ness: “Has said a comment to my husband my before about possibly burying white boys in my back yard.”
Neighbors say both men were known for their drinking and they're happy one of them is gone.
“Now that he's caused this trouble, we are more than grateful that he's locked up.”
As for the victim of this bizarre attack, he's just thankful to be alive to talk about it.
Mallas: “I hope that no other person has to experience this. That's all I hope.”
Peterson is being charged with second-degree attempted murder and assault. He is being held on 500-thousand-dollars bond.
