iPhone to be available in the F-M areaFargo, ND (WDASY TV) - It's finally here. After years of waiting, Verizon Wireless announced it will launch the Apple iPhone in less than a month.
It's been in the works for months, maybe even years, but Verizon customers can finally rejoice. The iPhone4 will be here soon. The Verizon Store in West Acres has been filled with people asking questions about the coming product.
Robert Swope (Manager): “Man if I had a dime for every time I've been asked that question on when Verizon is getting it. The most exciting part is we can tell our customers now we are getting it February 10th.”
The iPhone4 will initially run on the 3G network. Verizon has a 4G network available, but currently it's only used for wireless internet access, not Smartphones. However, officials say it shouldn't bog down the network.
This Christmas season, Verizon Wireless launched its first Apple product with the iPad with tremendous success. Now come February 10th with the launch of the iPhone, they're not expecting anything less.
Swope: “Lots of customers coming in asking about it, a lot of buzz around our employees. We've been waiting for this phone as well. There is nothing but positive stuff coming out of this announcement.”
But there is the other side of the coin. Some customers we spoke with today seemed indifferent about Verizon getting the iPhone.
Greg LaPlante: “Technologies for both are great, it just depends on what format a person wants and needs.”
Others said they still might give it a chance.
Aysha Overseth: “I think I would, I would have to check it out first, but it seems like a good deal.”
A 16-gigabyte version will sell for 200-dollars with a two-year contract, while a 32-gigabyte version will sell for 300. Right now Verizon is not releasing any details on what data plans will be offered. Last year, AT&T sold an estimated 14-million iPhones, and analysts say Verizon could sell over 10 million in 2011.
