International jewel thief convicted of another theft at age 80
(WDAY TV) - An international jewel thief almost got away with it, mostly because she looks so unassuming.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
80-year-old Doris Payne is a woman with a history of shoplifting from Monte Carlo, to France, to Tokyo. She was convicted on burglary and grand theft charges yesterday for stealing a ring valued at $8,900 from a San Diego Macy's store back in January.
She's been convicted 9 times before. A few years ago she spent 5 years in a Colorado prison. Payne faces up to five years in prison when she is sentenced in February.
