City workers have been waiting for answers as to why the water here in Casselton is brown. Today, in a letter from its water supplier it states reasons for the brown water along with a solution.

City auditor Brandy Pyle says it's an off and on occurrence. She showed us a few examples; you can see some days it's far worse than others. Cass Rural Water says the discoloration is from sediment in pipes.

The company is working on a new line to the city. Workers will now check the water daily and the problem should be solved. About 700 homes were affected.

"There are a few locations on the north and south side that seem to have had more than others and we can't figure out why it's concentrated in that area, but then there have been random spots just throughout the system."

Pyle says the water was tested weekly so they knew it was safe, just ugly to look at.
