BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A man was shot by police in Bismarck after
authorities say he pointed a gun at officers following a five-hour
standoff.
Sgt. Mark Buschena (boo-SHEE'-nuh) says three officers responded
to a mobile home about 8 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a man
holding people hostage at gunpoint. He says a SWAT team was called
in after the 43-year-old man came outside, confronted the officers,
then went back into the home.
Buschena says that after about four hours of off-and-on
negotiations with the man over the telephone, the man came out of
the home again about 1 a.m. Wednesday, pointed a gun at officers
and was shot.
The man was taken to a hospital. Police did not identify him or
release his condition. Buschena says no one else was hurt.
