ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota House environment committee
gets a presentation Wednesday on a long-range plan to ensure the
Land of 10,000 Lakes has clean, abundant water for generations to
come.
It's called the Minnesota Water Sustainability Framework and it
was prepared for the Legislature by the University of Minnesota
Water Resources Center. The 150-page report presents what the
authors have identified as the 10 most pressing issues that must be
addressed to achieve sustainable water use. It proposes strategies
for what should be done, and makes recommendations for meeting the
challenges.
The report says the state tends to take its abundant and clean
water for granted. But it says Minnesota's growing population will
result in ever greater demands on its water supply, and its
quality, unless the state makes changes now to protect it.
