Police: Move Abandoned Vehicles or Pay

If you got stuck while driving this weekend, chances are you might have been forced to leave your vehicle behind. But sometimes police, and cities, don't have time to wait. They need to get roads cleared, and it’s getting costly.
Many people left their vehicles abandoned in the snow over the weekend because Tow Services were giving up to eight-hour wait times, but when streets needed to be cleared immediately, police had to take matters into their own hands.
Because their impound lot was snowed in, Moorhead police were forced to tow vehicles to the police station.
They say they've impounded 30 vehicles because of the storm, while Fargo Police say they’ve impounded 33.
Police say the storm gives them several reasons to tow cars, but most importantly, they need roads cleared so plows can get through.
“Get them moved as soon as possible because the street crews are going to be cleaning up those roads as best they, can and anytime there's a car parked out there that they have to go around it takes more time,” said Sgt. Mike Detloff of the Moorhead Police Department.
Police do say if your car is plowed in on the side streets, they will give you a 24-hour notice before they tow it.
Moorhead police said the average cost of impounding a vehicle is 115-dollars for the owner.
