MOORHEAD – Moorhead Fire Chief Joel Hewitt has resigned effective Jan. 3 under an agreement the Moorhead City Council approved Thursday evening.
Under the agreement, Hewitt will receive $23,423 in unused vacation and sick time.
The amount reflects all of Hewitt’s accumulated vacation leave and one-half of his accumulated sick leave.
Hewitt was placed on paid administrative leave in August when city officials said they were conducting an internal investigation into allegations of “official misconduct.”
Since then, a prosecutor has said he will not bring charges against Hewitt following investigations into allegations Hewitt wrongly released investigative data, as well as allegations he solicited women for prostitution.
Under the agreement approved tonight, the city will not take any further actions related to investigations pending, or concluded against Hewitt.
The agreement states that Hewitt denies the allegations the city investigated.
