BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Consumer Protection Division in the attorney general's office says it's taken numerous reports of people receiving threatening calls over unpaid loans that they never took out.

Parrell Grossman said the caller tells people they are in legal trouble because of an unpaid pay-day loan or other financial obligation. He told the Bismarck Tribune that the caller threatens legal action or criminal charges if a certain amount of money isn't paid.

Grossman said the attorney general's office is unaware of anyone falling victim to the scam.
