WWII soldier gets medals

HANKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A Hankinson man has received medals he earned 66 years ago in France while fighting in World War II.

The Daily News of Wahpeton reported that Stanley Jaeger was presented with the Purple Heart and seven other military medals at a Dec. 8 ceremony.

The 85-year-old Jaeger said he finally submitted the paperwork for the medals at the urging of his grandsons.

He served four months in a German prisoner of war camp and said the hardest thing in life is to shoot another man.
