(WDAY TV) - A Battle Lake man accused of slitting the throat of his 1-year-old dog and leaving her for dead has been found and arrested in Colorado.

Police have been looking for Benjamin Stavaas since July. He faces six animal cruelty charges.

Stavaas is currently in jail in Golden Colorado and will stay there until arrangements can be made to get him back to Minnesota. Back in June, Star, a German Sheppard mix, was found in the wild near Fergus Falls.

Her throat was slit, cutting major veins, arteries and her trachea. Police traced Star to Stavaas, but he skipped out on a court date.
