The Moorhead School board tonight will hear a proposal to bring Mandarin Chinese to the high school. It would be a language offered to students, in addition to Spanish which has been in the schools for years.

This follows Governor Pawlenty and the state education department's request to offer more languages to young people to prepare them for the global economy they will be working in.

MISSY EIDSNESSMoorhead School District: “Our top priority is to have them have the skills for the jobs that are coming we do not know all of them yet, and have them prepared.”

Fargo schools are the other local district offering Mandarin Chinese. If no licensed teacher is found locally, it is possible students can take the class via I-T-V.
