WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) — Matt Williams came to the U.S. from England with dreams of playing NCAA Division I basketball. Instead he'll be playing major college football in the Pac-10.

The North Dakota State College of Science offensive tackle from Liverpool, England, has committed to California.

The Forum newspaper reports that Williams came to the U.S. when he was 16 in hopes of landing a college basketball scholarship. He went to Proctor Academy in Andover, N.H., and ended up playing football there for a couple of years before ending up at the community college in North Dakota.

The 6-foot-7, 295-pound Williams has played on the offensive line for just two years. NDSCS coach Chuck Parsons says Williams has work to do at the higher college level but has all the tools to succeed.
