Students launch the 2nd annual North Dakota Teen Drivers Safety contest

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Students at Fargo South are tackling a huge issue affecting many of their friends: Texting and driving.

Today, student leaders with DECCA, along with the State Department of Transportation, launched the 2nd annual North Dakota Teen Drivers Safety contest.

It is an effort to warn young people about the dangers of distracted driving, everything from texting, alcohol and speed. Last year in North Dakota, teens accounted for 21-percent of all car crashes.

As part of the Traffic Safety Contest, teens and their schools can win cash for programs, billboards or videos focusing on traffic safety.
