The non-profit agency has a goal of raising 650 thousand dollars this holiday season. That's from both mail-ins and the 34 red kettle sites.
So far, only 245 thousand dollars has been raised, down 30 thousand this time last year. Salvation Army leaders are staying optimistic the public will pull through with 16 days to go.
“I believe more people want to give back with their time, and donations of gifts and in-kind things, so I just think they're giving in a little different manner. It depends on what their situation is.”
Donations fund the agency's volunteer causes, like fire and flood relief.
