New ND US senator: No way I'm shaving mustache

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — John Hoeven promises he's taking his mustache to Washington when he resigns as North Dakota's governor Tuesday and concentrates on preparing for his new job as a U.S. senator.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — John Hoeven promises he's taking his mustache to Washington when he resigns as North Dakota's governor Tuesday and concentrates on preparing for his new job as a U.S. senator.

The 53-year-old Hoeven says he's had his lip whiskers since college and he's not giving them up. He wouldn't bite at suggestions that he could raise a lot of money if he agreed to become clean-shaven.

Since Hoeven announced his Senate campaign almost a year ago, his facial hair has drawn comments that mustaches are rare in Congress. A Facebook page was set up to campaign for Hoeven as the "Mustached American of the Year," but he didn't finish in the top five.

Hoeven says he considered the talk to be all in good fun.
