MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Attorneys for Republican Tom Emmer are withdrawing hundreds of frivolous ballots challenges in Hennepin County after a recount of the governor's race failed to dent Democrat Mark Dayton's lead.
Emmer and Dayton attorneys huddled together in Minneapolis Saturday to review more than 2,600 ballots challenged by Emmer partisans during the recount.
A little more than an hour into the review, lead Emmer attorney Eric Magnuson had withdrawn every challenge he looked over.
The statewide recount wrapped up Friday without much change in Dayton's 8,770-vote lead. Emmer's attorneys are fulfilling their promise to withdraw some of the nearly 3,000 frivolous challenges.
The bulk of the challenges are in Hennepin County, the state's biggest in population. Almost all are from Emmer's side.
Emmer hasn't ruled out a lawsuit over the undecided race.
