Emmer challenges rise in day 2 of Minn. recount

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Ballots in more than 83 percent of Minnesota precincts have gotten another look in the governor's race recount over the last two days.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Ballots in more than 83 percent of Minnesota precincts have gotten another look in the governor's race recount over the last two days.

The Minnesota secretary of state's office says Democrat Mark Dayton has dropped 38 votes and Republican Tom Emmer has lost one compared to their Nov. 2 totals for the same precincts.

But Emmer has challenged for times more ballots than Dayton, which temporarily hold a vote off the board. Emmer has lodged 597 challenges that a special board will examine later.

Separately, some challenges have been deemed frivolous. Those challenges don't get subtracted from candidate totals and the state board hasn't decided whether to review those again when it meets next week.

All told, almost 70 percent of ballots have been recounted.
