WDAZ-TV is thrilled to announce that Charley Johnson has been named the new co-anchor of the 6pm and 10pm newscasts at WDAZ-TV in Grand Forks, ND.
Johnson brings over 30 years of news experience to WDAZ. He actually started his career in news in Grand Forks at KNOX radio before moving to television and the anchor desk. Most recently, Johnson was a long-time anchor, news director and general manager at KVLY-TV in Fargo.
WDAZ news director Cassie Walder says the addition will solidify WDAZ as the northern valley's news leader. "Having Charley Johnson join our team is like signing Lebron James to the Heat. He is the most recognizable face in North Dakota television news, and we are elated that he is bringing his wealth of news experience to WDAZ."
WDAZ station manager Rob Horken says Johnson's addition to WDAZ is a natural fit. "People feel like they know and can trust Charley. Having him join WDAZ is like inviting a friend back into your living room. The prospect of Cassie Walder and Charley Johnson as co-anchors is really exciting."
Johnson says he is ready to get back to the basics of journalism- the real reason he started in news to begin with. He says Grand Forks is a perfect place for him to do that. "I started my career at KNOX Radio, so it feels very natural to come back here to help cover news. I'm very happy to get back into the newsroom environment, and I'm looking forward to working with Cassie and her team."
Johnson will begin his duties Monday, November 29th and will debut on the air shortly thereafter.
Walder says it's just one more reason viewers will continue to depend on WDAZ. "There has been something missing in North Dakota television news for the past 3 years. It was Charley Johnson."
