New task force to bring fugitives to justiceFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The U-S Marshals Service says there are fugitives living among us and the Marshals Service is creating a new team to bring those criminals to justice.
The US Marshal Service is announcing the formation of the High Plains Fugitive Task Force. The task force will combine the efforts of the Marshal Service, sheriffs department, and probation office to hunt down fugitives in the state of North Dakota.
Last year, the U.S. Marshal Service captured 80-thousand fugitives and cleared 119-thousand warrants. Right now in Cass County alone, there are more than 4-thousand outstanding warrants.
Officials say they'll focus on capturing the most violent offenders first. A similar task force has already proved very successful in several other states.
John Werner (TF Commander): "There's tremendous success because we work with local agencies and they know their turf. We can combine, whether it's financially or with what we provide, and they know the area and it's a good combination."
The 5 full-time agents will work out of the Federal Courthouse behind me and said they hope to actually save the state money by helping with funding, equipment and access to federal databases. If you know of a felon, you are encouraged to contact 701-241-1283 for safe apprehension.
