4-years ago, Corey Rystad died when the vehicle he was riding in, hit a road-side bomb. John Kriesel was riding in that vehicle.
As part of a Veterans Day ceremony, Kriesel talked about that day, and his recovery after the explosion. As the only survivor, he spent 9-months in rehab after losing both of his legs and damaging both arms.
He wasn't expected to live, but he told the community of Red Lake Falls today he is lucky and will not forget his buddies who did not make it.
“I was very close to not living and wouldn't get to see my boys, and wife. Do the little things, so it really opened my eyes appreciate life.”
Kriesel has written a book about his experience called Still Standing and was just elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives.
