GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to taking about $10,000 from a Grand Forks motel where he worked has to pay back the money or go to prison.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that 29-year-old Ricky Stephens was ordered to pay back the money in five years or face seven years in prison.
Stephens had claimed he was robbed while working at the Budget Inn Express in early April. Police later determined that Stephens had taken customers' money for rooms but not entered the transactions in the motel's computer.
Stephens later was arrested in Florida. He pleaded guilty to theft in September.
