LIDGERWOOD, N.D. (AP) — A fire at the K-12 school in the southeast North Dakota town of Lidgerwood destroyed at least two classrooms and caused extensive smoke damage to the first floor of the building.

The fire broke out late Tuesday afternoon. The school was hosting a regional volleyball tournament and fans, students and players were evacuated from the gymnasium.

Officials estimate more than 100 people were in the building. No injuries were reported. Firefighters from Hankinson and Lidgerwood battled the blaze for more than an hour. The cause wasn't immediately determined.

Classes were called off Wednesday. Principal Tony Grubb says students likely will be sent to another school during cleanup and repairs. The Forum reports that the volleyball tournament is to be played at Lisbon on Wednesday and Thursday.
