Pawlenty fails to bag deer on opener

LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Tim Pawlenty failed to bag a deer during his final Minnesota Governor's Deer Opener, which was held in the Little Falls area.

LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Tim Pawlenty failed to bag a deer during his final Minnesota Governor's Deer Opener, which was held in the Little Falls area.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that Pawlenty says he saw several deer Saturday but didn't take any shots at them.

Pawlenty created the annual Governor's Deer Opener to draw attention to Minnesota's deer hunting tradition and the economic benefits to the state.

Except for a small four-point buck in 2004, he never managed to harvest a deer in any of them. He shot a buck on opening day last November, but was unable to find the wounded animal.

This was Pawlenty's last chance as governor because he didn't seek a third term.
