KENMARE, N.D. (AP) — Turning on the tap to water through the Northwest Area Water Supply project has meant better-quality water for Kenmare. Now it's turning out to be beneficial for the oil industry, as well.
KENMARE, N.D. (AP) — Turning on the tap to water through the Northwest Area Water Supply project has meant better-quality water for Kenmare. Now it's turning out to be beneficial for the oil industry, as well.
Kenmare has found a market in the water-hungry oil fields for the aquifer water that the city no longer needs for residential use.
The Minot Daily News reports that through September, the city earned $82,000 from sales of bulk water this year to oil field companies and other users.
Kenmare is getting water from Minot through a NAWS pipeline until NAWS begins bringing treated water from the Missouri River to northwest North Dakota. Kenmare began filling its reservoir through NAWS about a year ago.
