Oil pipeline reclamation targets ND sinkholes
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Crews this fall are finishing a sinkhole reclamation project in northeast North Dakota's Tetrault (TEH'-truhlt) Woods State Forest and Pembina Gorge.
Sinkholes developed in the region in 2009 along the route of TransCanada Corp.'s Keystone oil pipeline. Some of them were as deep as 40 feet and swallowed pine trees.
State Forester Larry Kotchman tells the Grand Forks Herald that the sinkholes were one of the risks of the project, and that strict environmental standards have been used to mitigate them.
