LITCHVILLE, N.D. (AP) — The only grocery store in the southeast North Dakota town of Litchville has raised enough money to pay off about $2,000 in back taxes.
The Valley City Times-Record says the Litchville Enterprises store would have had to close if the taxes hadn't been paid by the deadline at the end of September.
The group used a spaghetti feed to raise money. It's planning another fundraiser to help pay off a delinquent milk bill.
Officials also are trying to collect from people behind on their grocery bills, including one Valley City couple with a $1,500 tab. The store last summer stopped selling groceries on credit.
