GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Authorities and attorneys aren't speculating on the motive for a fatal shooting in the northeast North Dakota town of Pembina but a prosecutor says he's expecting a self-defense argument.
Twenty-five-year-old Miguel Medina-Romero is being held on $1 million bail. He's accused of murder in the Saturday night death of 19-year-old B.J. Kalis of Walhalla.
He also faces a felony drug charge after officers say they found about a dozen marijuana plants in his home.
Defense attorney Neil Fleming isn't commenting. Pembina County Sheriff Brian Erovick says it's not known if the shooting was related to drugs.
Ben Ohmann, a friend of both the suspect and victim, told the Grand Forks Herald that Kalis was armed with a bat when Medina-Romero shot him.
