Half of local funding for a diversion is still needed. Leaders say a countywide sales tax will raise more money than just a Fargo tax. The county will match every dollar on a diversion.
It would generate 11 million dollars a year for 20 years. Officials say without this revenue stream, no other flood plan would protect as many properties.
“Getting the federal money is not a slam dunk by any means on this project and if we're going to have any opportunity to go in front of the Congress and expect to have this project funded, we'd better have a bullet proof local plan on how we're going to come up with the local money.”
The meetings are:
Next Thursday at Longfellow, Tuesday, the 19th, at Bennett, Thursday the 21st at Cheney Middle School, and Monday the 25th at St. Leo's Church in Casselton. All meetings start at 7 p-m.
