MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol is increasing its presence in western North Dakota's booming oil patch.
Troopers from around the state are coming to the region because of the heavy volume of traffic on roads, much of it due to the oil field activity.
Capt. Eric Pederson tells the Minot Daily News that troopers are conducting checks of trucks to increase safety for motorists. He says troopers are looking at such things as whether trucks are within weight limits and whether drivers are getting enough sleep. Authorities also are keeping an eye out for traffic violations.
