Traffic Stop Leads to Corn Field Chase in Grand Forks County

A Border Patrol helicopter was called in to assist in the search for a man running on foot through a corn field after he was pulled over for speeding.

Authorities have arrested an Edinburg, ND man after an hour-and-a-half search throughout a corn field.

A U.S. Border Patrol Air and Marine helicopter was called in to search for 25-year-old Michael Bakke as the Highway Patrol and Sheriff's Department searched from the ground.

The search took place in rural Grand Forks County near Orr Wednesday afternoon.

The Highway Patrol says a trooper tried to pull Bakke over for speeding, but he accelerated and then fled on foot into the corn field.

Bakke is facing charges of driving under suspension, fleeing from a law enforcement officer, and speeding, but the Highway Patrol says more charges could come from the State's Attorney's Office.
