In Cass County, more than 9-thousand phone numbers are now registered for the Code Red Weather alert system, which was purchased after complaints that tornado sirens sometimes fail, or are too hard to hear.

The system automatically calls you when there's a serious weather warning issued for your area.

“It's hard to gauge, but if you compare the cost of this feature with the cost of putting up a new siren I think the cost benefit is certainly pretty strong.”

Clay County also purchased the system. More than 4-thousand people have signed up for that.
