Bennett fourth graders had class at "The Outdoor Lab" on South University Drive. They each got backpacks full of gear to explore with like magnifying glasses, binoculars, and bird identifying books.

It was part of the new backpack program: Xcel Energy donated 40 backpacks to River Keepers.

"I like being outdoors and I think that's going to be fun and it's a fantastic review of the river and it's a good learning experience."

"We got to go on a walk from our school and come all the way over here."

River Keepers officials say the backpacks can be used by anyone. They ask that groups of people reserve a time to use the backpacks.
