BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A New Town man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after a federal jury convicted him of a sex crime.
Monty Mariner was charged with sexual abuse, assault resulting in serious bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland also ordered Mariner to pay more than $29,000 in medical bills.
Authorities say Mariner physically and sexually assaulted a woman inside a vehicle after leaving a house party in New Town last November, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
The government had argued in court documents for a sentence of 40 years, citing the heinous nature of the crime.
