Swelling Minn. River closes roads near St. Peter

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota transportation officials have announced more road closings due to flooding.

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota transportation officials have announced more road closings due to flooding.

Department of Transportation spokeswoman Rebecca Arndt says that Highway 99 at the east edge of St. Peter was closed around 2 a.m. Sunday due to flooding from the Minnesota River.

The department is also closing southbound U.S. Highway 169 between Mankato and St. Peter, and the northbound lanes could soon be closed, too.

Arndt says that a warning has also been issued that highway 22 south of St. Peter is likely to be closed Sunday.

Arndt says that while there is no fresh rain in the area, the Minnesota River continues to swell.

A slow march of thunderstorms across southern Minnesota through central Wisconsin from Wednesday through Friday dumped several inches of rain across the region.
